Engaging the title theme as the throughline, students experience butoh from multiple vantage points on Thursday nights while anchoring with Sheri Brown every Tuesday (Tuesdays start March 6, 2012) along the way, gathering inspiration for the final presentation in the Student Showcase / Teacher Teaser Performance (co-directed by Thorsen & Brown) Saturday April 14, 2012 at Velocity Dance Center . ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE WELCOME & ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! WE WANT YOU!!

More Info: Butoh is a post-modern, avante-guarde dance form that emerged out of post WWII Japan and focused on fighting against a superficial way of life and for legitimacy of difference. Butoh is not only an ar t for m but also a philosophy and life practice for dealing with crisis, resisting authority, and cultivating self and social awar eness. Special guest butoh artist and teacher Sheri Brown from Seattle Washington strives to reconnect the lives of people of all walks of life through radical performance art.
In this special BUTOH Workshop for Outside In’s Guerilla Theater we will • delve into the realms of desire, identity, self-awareness, sexual awareness, HIV and democracy in the framework of personal consciousness in a mainstream American Culture. • search and explore as a performance troupe for personal meaning in a post-industrial, consumer landscape and we will question everyday reality and learn how to express a benevolent vision through the mind, body and internal spirit. • reflecting on self as a first step to global consciousness, this mirror enables us to think globally and act locally as we seriously and playfully explore our place in the world. • search for and explore the pure force beyond the present civilizations of capitalism, socialism, westernization, and modernization • do a 1-2 hour Guerilla Street Performance together
