Following are the next opportunities to study, expand, and deepen the butoh experience through some of the Northwest's own most experienced and esteemed practitioners of the almost-illusive, always powerful art form.
Beginning the second weekend in October and continuing every other weekend through that month and November, the DAIPAN butoh collective presents its fall workshop series, beginning with Helen Thorsen and Haruko Nishimura in October (more info below), and then moving to Diana Garcia-Snyder and Mizu Desierto (more info to follow). Whether you choose to be at every session or even only one day, I warmly welcome you to continue following your heart and enjoy the increased integration of personal movement art into y/our lives.
Best wishes,
Sheri

SHERI BROWN & ALAN SUTHERLAND
May 7 (6-9pm), May 8 (10 - 3pm)
Beginning with a meditation on the heart and chakra, we will open the kaleidescope of meta-inner-outer dance of drishti vision versus sense vision. The workshop will be accompanied by accomplished, long-time collaborating musician, Travis McAllister of Portland.
Sheri Butoh-based, Seattle-based teacher/performer Sheri Brown has studied with numerous masters including Diego Pinon, Katsura Kan, Joan Laage, Jay Hirobashi, Minako Seki, Akira Kaseir, Su-En, Kota Yamazaki, and Yoshito Ohno to develop her current expression regimen. She danced extensively with the WTO-birthed seminal butoh-based dance troupe the P.A.N., with whom she toured Korea twice, once winning the esteemed Dokkebi Award for most creative, cutting-edge work in the International Mime Festival. She also toured Japan with with the P.A.N. as a solo artist, partnering with Japanese musician Marron of DubMarronics. Sheri dances with butoh theatre and mathematics, a prayer for the renaissance within; her dance is about the integration of line, unknown, grace, and love-base outside the the midst of illusory sense cloudings, trappings, the spaces between spaces that is “all good”.

ALEX RUHE (From Danse Perdue)
May 21 (6-9pm), May 22 (10 - 3pm)
True achievement in art (and in Living) concerns illuminating the shadow -- the unfamiliar, the unseen, and casting shadow upon the light -- questioning truths we assume to be self-evident, doubting what we think we know. To look inside, to see more, to question more, to become more, to connect to something deeper than identity – that is the basis of our work with you.
The art of Danse Perdue (Lost Dance) concerns illumination, possession, and transmutation -- ceaseless birth and death of microorganisms writhing within emotional surges of love and violence; mutation of intimacy. Dance Perdue have performed and taught in many venues in the states and in Europe (danseperdue.org and of course facebook.com/danseperdue).
